Veterinary District Professionals is a dedicated team of experts that specialise in home care for your pets. We are committed to helping you and your pet adjust post-diagnosis. Founded by Carla Finzel RVN and Dr. Trudy Langdale who have over 20 years combined experience in veterinary treatment and nursing, including in animal emergency rooms.
We feel tremendous empathy for owners who arrive at the consulting room as the patient is discharged, their beloved pet, and feels helpless. These owners have just been reunited with their pet after a very worrying and emotional time apart during surgery/treatment.
To make matters more complicated, owners are then usually handed a goody bag of tablets, ointments, insulin, syringes, inhaler and feeding tubes (depending on the patient's condition) and the owners are left wondering how to manage to administer all the necessary treatments at home without the support of a medical professional. In many cases, those first few days when an animal has been discharged is when treatments are not administered successfully and the animal relapses.
We do not believe this to be the owners fault. It can be a lot to take in, and the majority of pet owners have no veterinary training. They may also live alone, have a disability that prevents them from effectively treating thier pet, or become scared that they will cause the animal pain. In medical treatment of toddlers, community health professionals are automatically assigned to new parents to ensure the success of treatment and to support mum and dad. So why should animal care be any different?
We believe in effective emotional and practical support for our customers. It's important that you know what is going on with your pet, but we also understand the emotional toll that medical conditions can cause. We're committed to providing a compassionate, personalised service that will help you, your pet and your family to adjust. We have a 100% success rate of pets having achieved remission within 8-10 weeks of a diabetes diagnosis to our "Diabetic Nursing Clinics" in the comfort of the patient's home, providing 12hr Blood Glucose Curve reports to the veterinary surgeon. These patients have gone from the need to be injected with exogenous insulin twice daily, to no longer needing injections.
